Templates Suggestions from EDTEC 541 Fall '09 Students

The following are Listserv entries from providing feedback of which templates worked (or didn't) for them during the course:

Hi everyone,

Here's my contribution to the Listserv. These entry is for those who wish to assist future 541 students (and for those who need Listserv entries).

I was hoping that you can indicate which templates worked successfully for you, and which ones make you want to throw the computer out the window.

The idea is for me to compile a thumbs up/thumbs down list of templates. Again, the purpose of this is to limit the amount of pain and anguish for 541 students by pointing them in the right direction when choosing a template.

If you are going to contribute, just write down the name of the template. If possible, write down the date in which it was published. This makes it easier for me to track it down. More important, please indicate whether if it was a positive or negative experience. Although it is not needed, feel free to elaborate on your experience.

Thank you so much for your hard work during the semester. You have created amazing work. Hats off to you!

Have a Happy Holidays!

Roberto

Here is the information for the template I used

Name kappebeans
Added 05.07.09
Type Fixed Width
Images Yes

I liked the way it looked although it had the navigation down the side. It worked out fine though - I just added a quote at the bottom.

I did make changed to it in photoshop - the colors and the header photoimage.

I did like the formatting and changed very little of that.

I did not use a template for my final project though.

M. Gomez

i obtained my second template free from http://www.wix.com
It is pretty simple and i do enjoy their designs. Also you have tutorials and much more.
They do sell their services but they have nice templates for free
Check them out

M. Salamanca

I used "Blue Brush" for my CSS template. Very clean template and was consistent in its presentation.

S. Riley

I used sunflower and was very tempted to throw my laptop out my window...multiple times. There was just layer after layer of frames and you could never figure out what you were changing. The top banner and photo was chunked into six different sections. I don't recommend it.

J. Ortiz

For my personal portfolio I used Implied.

I give it a thumbs up. It was easy to use and a clean design. However, the text was too dark on the page and I ended up having to change that.

For my second site I used Primitive.

I liked it because it was very simple, lacking any of the weird bells and whistles the other sites sometimes have.

A. Fishman

For my final project I switched CSS templates because the one I originally used moved things around too much. It was called green thumb. http://www.freecsstemplates.org/preview/greenthumb. The one I ended up using was as difficult but had more options and just looks better. I got the template from: http://www.free-css.com/free-css-templates. It's called foodonline.

E. Okamura

For my final project I used the template called orange sunset. It has a fairly simple design that was pretty easy to work with. I would recommend this template.

T. Ly

The templates that I found to be the easiest to work with are:

1. gamberetto made in 2007

2. brewedcoffee made in 2007

J. Schneider

For my portfolio I had

Name characterized
Added 08.14.09

It is a very clear template, but there is one thing that was disturbing: It had a search field that didn't work. So the template doesn't come with the javascript.

C. Soto

I used naturescharm, it was a pretty easy template to work with and would recommend it.

J. Gonzalez

For my second site I used "earthlingtwo" from freecsstemplates.org. I thought this was a good template for using bold header/footer images - that's why I picked it... but, there it as a little fickle with the div tags (spacing).
